Chiron enters retrograde on July 10-11, 2020, but traveling through the underworld is a place it’s very familiar with.
Chiron was abandoned at birth and left to fend for itself. It was through this wound of abandonment and difficult upbringing that it was able to rise up, and turn its wounds into powerful portals of healing.
It was Chiron’s wounds that paved the way for its role as a powerful healer, teacher, psychic, and philosopher. This is why Chiron is referred to as the wounded healer.
We all possess the same powers as Chiron. Inside each and every one of us, we have the ability to take our wounds and pain points and turn them into a source of power.
As the poet Rumi says- the wound is where the light enters you.
The symbolism of Chiron is used to represent this asteroid that is orbiting out there in space between Saturn and Uranus.
Saturn is a very grounded, rooted, energy, whereas Uranus is considered a planet of a higher vibration. Uranus’ energy can also bring about awakenings and the rise of kundalini energy.
Chiron can act as a bridge between these two states of being and is actually sometimes referred to as the Rainbow Bridge.
The Rainbow bridge signifies the linking between one state of consciousness and the next, and this idea is further amplified if we look to Egyptian Astrology.
In ancient Egyptian astrology, Chiron goes by another name- Anpu or Anubis, the god of the afterlife and lost souls.
A lot of the myths and legends that are used in Western Astrology can be traced back to Egyptian and Babylonian astrology, and Anubis can be seen as Chiron’s counterpart.
Just like Chiron, Anubis was abandoned as a child. It was through this painful upbringing that Anubis was also able to rise up into the noble profession of the guardian of the underworld.
It was the job of Anubis to welcome the newly dead to the underworld and to guide them as they transition to the afterlife.
It takes a special soul to be given such a position, and no doubt, it was Anubis’ own pain and suffering that allowed it to develop the compassion, discernment, and loyalty to walk souls through such a journey.
“Anubis is the renewer of souls of the dead. In order to assume this role, it was necessary to release his attachment to his own wounding by moving into forgiveness, love, and a larger understanding of the deeper meaning behind the wounding. Thus, he is transformed into a great healer and a guide for others.”– Linda Star Wolf and Ruby Falconer
As Chiron or Anubis enters retrograde in Aries this July, we are able to go within to our own wounds and reflect on how we have used them as a source of power and healing.
I think about my own journey with grief in this instance. The loss of my sister in this physical realm has given me a deep wound. And while it is painful, I can also appreciate how it has softened me and made me more compassionate.
I feel this compassion is allowing me to be a better writer, a better friend, and a better human overall.
Along with finding the light from our wounds, this is also a time to think about the things that still pain us, and how we may be able to create some space so we can shift and turn them into growth, power, and light.
“There is no doubt that baby Anubis was afraid and hurt when his mother Nephthys walked away from him. But soon Isis, Great Mother to us all, comes and scoops him up in her rainbow wings- as she holds each of us when we are facing our own dark night of the soul.” – Linda Star Wolf and Ruby Falconer
We can use this Retrograde energy not to sugar-coat our wounds, but to recognize that just like Chiron and Anubis, our suffering very often can lead us to the path of our destiny.
“The pain of our experience becomes our greatest teacher and the lesson we learn is who we truly are beyond our wounds.“– Linda Star Wolf and Ruby Falconer
As Chiron/Anubis retrogrades through the sign of Aries, it makes a series of alignments with Mars.
They conjunct on July 13, 2020, but this energy is likely to be felt all through the second half of the month and even in to August.
At this time, we can really be guided to not just think of our wounds as portals of light but of courage, strength, and purposeful action.
Under this energy, we can allow our wounds to help us take action for a brighter future.
Chiron turns direct on December 15, 2020.
