They’re in a particularly tough blind spot: on one hand coming here on a daily basis to read messages about hope and on the other, feeling an urge to attack every one of them with anonymous, disconnected arguments.
However, it answers your question ‘what happens to those who refuse to wake up’: they self-dissociate. Half their brain is trying to get them to read these messages and the other half dumps the ‘venting’ we often witness here.

Ideally, yes. But I’m afraid that the same principle that makes caricatures funny is used by the subconscious to bring our attention to our own ridiculousness: exaggeration.
Nobody is obvious to themselves, that’s why we should tread carefully offering or receiving critics.
It’s true that sometimes, people are acting like true caricatures, for the reasons you mentionned.
