Age and Familiarity

One of the greatest illusions humanity has embraced is the belief that what has existed for centuries must therefore continue to exist.

But age does not make something eternal, and familiarity does not make something true. Entire systems of thought, identity, authority, and perception can disappear when consciousness outgrows the reality that sustained them.

You are not witnessing the end of life. You are witnessing the exhaustion of a particular way of experiencing it. What is dissolving is not life itself, but the structures through which humanity learned to define life.

And perhaps the greatest challenge of this transition is not learning how to enter the new, but finding the courage to stop asking the old to remain.
