Your true nature is spirit and to know yourself, you must be born again as Jesus said. To be born again is simply ceasing from identification as a body-mind character, and becoming aware of your true nature as Spirit and divine. Your true nature is one with God. Being born again is a change of mind, a turning from falsehood about who you are, to the truth. It is a wholly inner transformation and awakening and has nothing to do with saying a sinner’s prayer in church. It is not a Christian or religious privilege or ritual.
Your ego, the false identity, cannot inherit or enter the kingdom of God within, for it is an illusion. You are not the body, and you are not flesh and blood. God is Spirit and can be known only by and in Spirit. Likewise, you are Spirit and you can only know yourself by letting go of the belief that you are a body.
“It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing”
Jesus in John 6
“Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is everyone that is born of the Spirit.”
Jesus in John 3
When one is born again, Christ has returned to them, one remembers their divine nature. Understanding the true meaning of being born again, Christ’s return within, and awakening as an inner transformation, Apostle Paul’s words below become clear because they speak of a wholly internal experience, which is why he calls it a mystery. Otherwise, they are veiled:
“Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So, when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
