Although campaigns against cancer are more visible for female cancers, such as breast and cervical cancers, men are more commonly affected by cancer than women. Men also have a higher mortality rate from cancer than women. Cannabinoids in the system, as well as lifestyle changes can help.
The most common cancers in men, according to the US SEER database are lung, prostrate, colectoral, bladder, melanoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, thyroid and kidney cancers.
Colectoral cancer: This is associated with obesity, sedentary lifestyle and a diet high in saturated fats, alcohol and low-fibre foods. Symptoms include change in bowel habits, blood in the stool and unexplained weight loss. A study published in journal Phytomedicine, and published online by the National Institute of Health, has found that cannabis-based medicines may provide a cure for colon cancer.
Prostate cancer: This typically affects older men. Presenting symptoms can be blood in urine and urinating problems. Conventional treatment includes surgery, radiation or hormonal medication. Anecdotal evidence abounds that cannabis has cured many men of their prostate cancer, and even the National Cancer Institute has published science articles which conclude that cannabinoids should be considered as agents for the management of prostate cancer.
Lung cancer: Lung cancer occurs frequently in men. This is likely due to more men being tobacco smokers, or miners who are exposed to substances such as asbestos. Late diagnosis of lung cancer and advanced stage at diagnosis is associated with a very poor prognosis, and is the number one cancer death in the world. Immunotheraphy trials are currently in progress. THC has been found to reduce tumor growth in common lung cancer by 50 percent. It also reduces the ability of the cancer to spread, say researchers at Harvard University, who tested the substance in both lab and mouse studies. The researchers suggest that THC might be used in a targeted fashion to treat lung cancer.
Of course, cannabis is not a miracle cure on its own, many survivors maintain that they have stopped eating high-fat junk food, started a super-food, organic, nutrient dense diet and started exercising regularly.
