Planetary Illuminations for May 2018

astroscopeMAJOR MAY EVENTS

The biggest single planetary event in May is the shift of Uranus from Aries into Taurus. I will be writing more about this 7-year cycle of Uranus changing signs, but I believe that this will have a powerful effect on the financial markets and economic systems. Taurus is the sign most closely associated with wealth and possessions, and Uranus creates disruptions in whatever sign it passes through.  While in Aries, the sign of aggression, Uranus oversaw the splintering of governments into small bands of revolutionaries and the proliferation of gun violence around the world. Under Venus-ruled Taurus, the force of aggression we have seen over the past seven years is likely to calm down somewhat, but there will be a pulling in and contracting of spending and a corresponding recession. This is not a time for financial speculation or risk taking, at least until we see exactly what kinds of energies we are looking at which will be clearer when Uranus retrogrades back into Aries at the end of this year. For more details and ongoing reporting on this and other planetary matters, please follow my Astrological Musings blog.

We also have the second phase of a harmonious trine between Jupiter and Neptune towards the end of May. When the planet of optimism and good fortune (Jupiter) harmonizes with the planet that inspires us towards creativity and inspiration (Neptune), blessings abound. This cycle began in December of 2017 and will end in August 2018 and is an excellent time for all creative endeavors and spiritual explorations. It’s an unfortunate fact that while the challenging planetary cycles will hit us over the head with no effort on our part, the harmonious cycles DO require effort in order to utilize their gifts.  So make the most of this time by honoring your own urges towards creating more harmony and bliss in your life!

MAY DETAILS

During the first few days of the month we have some harmonious planetary energies to help us to center and smooth out our relationships and our own self-image. The first real planetary punch comes around May 7th when our communication with others is likely to be challenged with power dynamics and our relationships may be somewhat confusing.  Any personal issues that may have been hidden may make themselves known.

Between the 8th and the 11th aspects from the Sun help to illuminate our lives and inspire us to grow and expand, enhancing our feelings of personal empowerment.  This will help us to prepare for potential mental distress or communication problems on the 12th and 13th that continue through the Taurus New Moon on the 15th.

Taurus is a sign that loves peace and harmony, and the New Moon in Taurus is an opportunity to find your grounding space, to connect with the earth and the pleasures that are available to humans in a physical body. But challenging Mars aspects at the New Moon will have a disruptive effect. At the very least this Mars influence will help to energize and motivate, but if there is any dissonance in your life it will become apparent during this time between the 12th and the 16th. Fortunately, Mercury will have just moved into Taurus to help us to find mental equanimity, and harmonious influences from Mars and Pluto will help us to easily find the balance we need to maintain our motivation AND our equilibrium.

Uranus enters Taurus on the 15th, and at that time we will be fully into Taurus season with four planets in this grounded and earthy sign.  Don’t be surprised if you suddenly find yourself craving to spend time with plants or in the garden – Taurus helps us to connect with the wonders of the earth and all of its bounties.

There is some potential for conflict around the 16th under a stressful Mars influence.  Mars moves into Aquarius on that day and doesn’t shy away from unpleasant situations but things will feel smoother on the 18th as we find greater balance and easy communication.

Venus enters Cancer on the 19th, bringing in a greater sense of nurturing and care to our relationships, and the Sun moves into Gemini on the 20th hinting towards the beginning of Gemini season – a time when the mind is active, we hunger for new experiences, and communication is everything.

Between the 19th and the 23rd a number of fast moving planetary aspects create momentary shifts in our emotions and interactions. We may experience emotional stress in our relationships as old wounds emerge, but the awareness and personal strength is available to resolve these issues.

Though the harmonious trine from Jupiter to Neptune peaks on the 25th, it has been building for much of the month.  You can best utilize this energy of divine inspiration and illumination between May 10th to May 30th. In any case, the 25th is a wonderful day to focus on our goals and dreams as anything is possible if we can only imagine it.

On the 26th we may not feel as social as we do at other times – this is a good day for introspection and spending time alone.

The Sagittarius Full Moon on the 29th helps to amplify the expansiveness of the Jupiter/Neptune event of the previous week.  Sagittarius inspires us to broaden our vision and our sense of possibilities and to reach higher than we ever thought possible. The culmination of the lunar cycle, the Full Moon provides an opportunity for recognition and release of anything that no longer serves a purpose. Emotions are often heightened under a Full Moon, allowing us to expand our hearts and become more fully awake and present and that is particularly true under the Sagittarius influence which is naturally optimistic and very ready to take us to the next level of awareness.

I hope you have a beautiful May!
